Recognision
Did you know that magpies and crows can hold grudges?
In a study, where a team of researchers in caveman mask have captured a couple of magpies and later released them, magpies and crows would squack loudly after seeing them again, even after months and years! They also seem to awknowledge other crows and magpies, who also had the same reaction despite not being captured nor witnissing the capture.
Crows and magpies have excellent memory for human faces. This helps them to recognize individuals who they considers as a threat. They also can recognized faces of those who had fed them, which may led to receiving a "gift" from them as a "thank you".
Furthermore, magpies are able to recognize themselves in a mirror or a reflection.
